Abstract

The design and construction of current electronically-controlled hydraulically-actuated engine valve systems are currently still being tested for dependability. The electronics control various activities including actuation velocity and, therefore, can include complicated components. The present invention overcomes this and other problems by providing a valve actuation system (10) including an electronically-controlled hydraulically-actuated plunger (54) for actuating an engine valve (16). Hydraulic means (230, 240) are utilized for reducing the plunger velocity thereby controlling the valve lift and the valve seating as the valve (16) approaches the open and closed positions. The hydraulic means (230, 240) reduces the need for a complicated electronic control unit, therefore, improving the feasibility and dependability of the present invention.

Le fonctionnement et la fiabilité de systèmes actuels à soupapes de moteur hydrauliques à commande électronique font à l'heure actuelle l'objet d'évaluations. La commande électronique détermine divers paramètres dont en particulier la vitesse d'actionnement et peut comprendre, par conséquent, des composantes compliquées. La présente invention permet de résoudre, entre autres, ce problème grâce à un système d'actionnement (10) de soupape comprenant un piston (54) hydraulique à commande électronique conçu pour actionner une soupape (16) de moteur. On utilise des moyens hydrauliques (230, 240) pour diminuer la vitesse du piston et maîtriser la montée et la descente de la soupape lorsque celle-ci (16) s'approche ou s'éloigne de sa position de fermeture ou d'ouverture. Le moyen hydraulique (230, 240) proposé de la présente invention diminue la nécessité d'une unité électronique de commande complexe et permet donc d'augmenter la faisabilité et la fiabilité du système.
