Abstract
(EN)
A metal matrix composite material is described which comprises a fibre reinforcement having a coating comprising gadolinium and gadolinium boride, preferably as discrete layers each having a thickness of 1 to 6 microns. Also described is a method of manufacture of such a material comprising the steps of coating reinforcing fibres with gadolinium by use of a deposition technique; further coating the fibres with gadolinium boride by use of a deposition technique and consolidating the coated fibres into a metal matrix to form the metal matrix composite.

L'invention concerne un matériau composite à matrice métallique comprenant un renfort fibreux recouvert de gadolinium et de borure de gadolinium, de préférence en couches séparées présentant un épaisseur de 1 à 6 microns. Elle porte également sur un procédé de fabrication de ce type de matériau qui consiste à recouvrir de gadolinium les fibres de renfort par une technique de déposition; à enduire encore les fibres de borure de gadolinium au moyen d'une technique de déposition et à consolider les fibres enduites dans une matrice métallique de sorte que le matériau composite à matrice métallique soit formé.
