Abstract

A novel method for the determination of biochemical oxygen demand in aqueous liquids containing organic matter within 20 minutes and an apparatus for the same. The method, in which a microorganism culture is utilized as it is, comprises aerating the microorganism culture to exhaust the organic matter usable to the microorganisms, adding a sample containing the organic matter into the above exhausted culture to measure an amount of oxygen consumed by the microorganisms, and calculating the BOD of the sample directly. The apparatus according to the present invention comprises a magnetic stirrer (11), an aerating instrument (8), a dissolved oxygen/temperature sensor (1), tubing pumps (3, 4) and QBOD bottle (5). In the apparatus a timer is equipped, and a calculating method is programmed, so that BOD is automatically calculated using a dilution and OUR. Therefore, the apparatus is easy to use in a working spot.

Nouveau procédé pour déterminer en 20 minutes la demande biochimique d'oxygène dans des liquides aqueux contenant une matière organique, et appareil permettant de mettre en oeuvre ce procédé. Le procédé, dans lequel on utilise une culture de microorganismes tels quels, consiste à aérer la culture de microorganismes pour épuiser la matière organique susceptible d'être utilisée par les microorganismes, ajouter un échantillon contenant la matière organique dans la culture épuisée susmentionnée pour mesurer une quantité d'oxygène consommée par les microorganismes, et calculer directement la DBO de l'échantillon. L'appareil selon l'invention comprend un agitateur magnétique (11), un instrument d'aération (8), un capteur de température/oxygène dissous, des pompes de tubage (3, 4) et une bouteille de demande biochimique en oxygène rapide (5). L'appareil comprend une minuterie et un procédé de calcul est programmé de sorte que la DBO est automatiquement calculée en se fondant sur une dilution et sur le taux de consommation d'oxygène. Par conséquent, l'appareil est facile à utiliser dans un site de travail.
