A novel polypeptide having a cold-resistant pyruvate phosphate dikinase activity as a means for imparting cold resistance to plants; a cloned DNA coding for the polypeptide; and a recombinant vector containing the DNA. The polypeptide has an amino acid sequence, in any of the following dikinase (1) and polypeptide (2), wherein at least one amino acid residue present in the region with a length of one-sixth of the total length from the C-terminus of the amino acid sequence has been replaced by another amino acid residue and also has a cold-resistant pyruvate phosphate dikinase activity: (1) a pyruvate phosphate dikinase having an amino acid sequence represented by any of the SEQ ID Nos. 1 to 4 in the Sequence Listing, and (2) a polypeptide having an amino acid sequence which is at least 50 % homologous with the amino acid sequence of the dikinase (1) and also having a pyruvate phosphate dikinase activity.

Nouveau polypeptide ayant une activité de pyruvate-phosphate-dikinase résistant au froid, servant à conférer une résistance au froid à des végétaux; ADN cloné codant ce polypeptide; et vecteur de recombinaison renfermant cet ADN. Ce polypeptide comporte une séquence d'acides aminés, dans la dikinase suivante (1) et/ou le polypeptide suivant (2), de telle sorte qu'au moins un résidu d'acide aminé présent dans cette région, avec une longueur égale à un sixième de la longueur totale de la terminaison C de la séquence d'acides aminés, a été remplacé par un autre résidu d'acide aminé et comporte également une activité de pyruvate-phosphate-dikinase résistant au froid: (1) pyruvate-phosphate-dikinase comportant une séquence d'acides aminés représentée par l'une quelconque des séquences figurant sous les numéros 1 à 4 de la liste des séquences; et (2) polypeptide comportant une séquence d'acides aminés qui est homologue à concurrence d'au moins 50 % avec la séquence d'acides aminés de la dikinase (1) et présentant également une activité de pyruvate-phosphate-dikinase.
