A mating closure and finish system particularly adapted for use with containers, e.g. bottles containing carbonated beverages which generate gas in the bottle head space and where the bottle finish incorporates at least two equally spaced helical cam tracks (18, 20). The closure is comprised of plural sets of cam followers (82 to 92) which fit into the cam tracks and where the cooperation between the cam tracks and cam followers produces an axial movement of the closure as it is rotated on the finish. For a two track system, which is the preferred embodiment, each track starts 180° from other and makes at least one full turn around the circumference of the finish. Also included are intervening stops (38, 40) and tapered speed bumps (60, 62) that contact and impede the cam follower(s) in the cam tracks during closure removal to effect a delay. Raised thread segments which define the cam tracks are intersected by a plurality of vertical venting slots (48, 50, 52, 54) or pathways along their helical length to vent headspace gas. Longitudinally extending grooves (56, 58) are located in raised thread segments on either side of the cam tracks and couple with the vertical venting slots to provide a continuous venting conduit of the head space gas. Anti-backoff devices (66, 68) are furthermore provided which operate when the closure is seated on the finish to keep the closure from backing off the finish and leaking prior to closure removal.

Système d'accouplement d'une fermeture et de l'extrémité d'un récipient, notamment d'une bouteille, contenant une boisson gazeuse produisant du gaz dans la partie supérieure de la bouteille, dont le col comporte au moins deux rails de guidage hélicoïdaux et situés à égale distance l'un de l'autre (18, 20). La fermeture est composée de plusieurs ensembles d'éléments du type galet de came (82 à 92) s'adaptant dans les rails et dont la coopération avec lesdits rails crée un déplacement axial de la fermeture simultanément à sa rotation sur le col. Dans un système à deux rails, le mode de réalisation préféré, chaque rail commence à 180° de l'autre et effectue au moins une rotation totale autour de la circonférence du col. Ce système comprend également des butées (38, 40) et des protubérances coniques de ralentissement (60, 62) venant en contact avec le(s) galet(s) de came et inhibant leur déplacement dans les rails pendant le retrait de la fermeture, ce qui crée un retard. Les segments filetés et surélevés définissant les rails sont coupés par une pluralité de fentes verticales d'aération ou de passages (48, 50, 52, 54) créant une rupture sur leur trajet hélicoïdal, afin de libérer le gaz de la partie supérieure de la bouteille. Des rainures longitudinales (56, 58) sont situées dans les segments filetés des deux côtés des rails et s'accouplent aux fentes verticales, afin de constituer un trajet continu de libération du gaz de la partie supérieure de la bouteille. De plus, des dispositifs de blocage (66, 68) empêchent la fermeture de se dévisser du col et de fuir, avant l'ouverture de la bouteille.
