In a crossflow gas-liquid contact tower, liquid moves horizontally across a plurality of vertically spaced trays, and downwardly from tray-to-tray while gas flows up through openings (16) in the trays to create a liquid-vapor mixture in an active bubble area. Each tray is formed of panels (7, 9) with mutually overlapping margin portions (7M, 9M). Overlapping vapor openings (16M, 17M) are formed in the overlapping margin portions (7M, 9M) in order to provide the tray with a greater open area and with a more uniform aperture distribution. Preferably, each opening includes an aperture (16, 16M) in the plane of the tray, and a deflector (18) overlies the aperture to define lateral vapor outlet slots. The aperture is wider at its upstream end than at its downstream end; and, the deflector (18) has upstream and downstream portions (18u, 18d) which extend across the ends of the aperture.

Dans une tour de mise en contact entre gaz et liquide à circulation croisée, le liquide passe horizontalement sur une pluralité de plateaux espacés dans le sens vertical et d'un plateau à l'autre vers le bas, tandis que le gaz monte à travers des ouvertures (16) ménagées dans les plateaux afin de créer un mélange de liquide et de vapeur dans une zone à bulles inactive. Chaque plateau est formé de panneaux (7, 9) pourvus de parties de bord (7M, 9M) qui se chevauchent mutuellement. Des ouvertures pour les vapeurs (16M, 17M) se chevauchant sont formées dans les parties de bord (7M, 9M) qui se chevauchent afin de doter le plateau d'une plus grande surface ouverte et d'une répartition plus uniforme des ouvertures.
