A fluidized bed biological filter system (10) for fish tanks having a primary container (26) structure for receiving particulate material (64) and a secondary container (24) for receiving contaminated water. The front and rear walls (38, 36) of the primary container (26) converge downwardly to form an acute angle. The rear wall (36) of the primary container structure incorporates a manifold (50) having an inlet port (56) at its top end and an outlet port (62) adjacent the bottom of the primary container (26). The outlet port (62) is linear and extends between the laterally spaced sidewalls (30, 31) of the primary container (26). Particulate material (64) having a specific gravity greater than water is placed in the bottom of the primary container structure (26). The contaminated water is pumped into the secondary container (24) and then pumped (20) into the manifold (50) and through the outlet port (62) causing the particulate material (64) to be fluidized upwardly in the primary container (26). The particulate material (64) converts ammonia to nitrate.

Les parois avant et arrière (38, 36) de la première cuve (26) convergent vers le bas pour former un angle aigu. La paroi arrière (36) de la première cuve comprend un tuyau collecteur (50) comportant des orifices d'entrée (56) et de sortie (62) situées respectivement à son extrémité supérieure et au voisinage du fond de la première cuve (26).
