Abstract
(EN)
An intumescent coating system and method therefor are disclosed for thermally protecting a substrate exposed to fire. The instant coating system has a first component which forms a rigid carbonific char foam having toughness, and a second component which forms an insulative carbonific char foam having about half the density of the rigid carbonific foam. The two foams may be separately applied as, respectively, an inner coating layer coated and cured on the substrate, and an outer coating layer coated and cured on the inner film layer. Alternatively, the two foams are provided as a blend to comprise a single coating layer which is coated and cured on the substrate. While one foam component protects the substrate from breakthrough and direct exposure to fire conditions, the other insulates to protect it from heating by fire conditions, thus offering flame retardancy at film thicknesses of less than 1.27 mm (50 mils).

Cette invention se rapporte à un système de revêtement intumescent et au procédé qui lui est associé, afin de protéger thermiquement un substrat exposé au feu. Ce système de revêtement présente un premier constituant qui forme une mousse de charbon de bois rigide ayant une certaine dureté et une certaine rigidité, ainsi qu'un second constituant qui forme une mousse de charbon de bois isolante ayant une densité égale à environ la moitié de la densité de la mousse rigide. Ces deux mousses peuvent être appliquées séparément sous la forme, respectivement, d'une couche de revêtement interne déposée et durcie sur le substrat, et d'une couche de revêtement externe déposée et durcie sur la couche de film interne. Dans une variante, les deux mousses peuvent être produites à partir d'un mélange de façon à contenir une seule couche de revêtement, laquelle est déposée et durcie sur le substrat. Un constituant en mouse protège le substrat contre la rupture et contre toute exposition directe au feu, tandis que l'autre isole le substrat afin de le protéger contre la chaleur offrant ainsi des propriétés ignifuges pour des épaisseurs de film inférieures à 1,27 mm (50 millièmes de pouce).
