Abstract

A color video projection video system in which a white light source is separated into red, green and blue bands (212, 216, 220) with dark guard bands (211, 214, 218) spaced therebetween. Scanning optics cause the colored bands to be sequentially scanned across a light valve, such as a transmission LCD panel. Prior to each color passing over a given row of on the light panel on the light valve, that row will be addressed, by the display electronics with the appropriate color content of that portion of the image which is being displayed. The image of the panel is projected by a projection lens onto a viewing surface, such as a screen. In order to optimize the color purity of the system when used with certain types of light valves, the intervals (dR, dG, dB) between each of the three colors is adjusted and scaled to the differing response times of the LCD panel for each of the colors. Additionally, color balance can be adjusted by changing the relative size of each color band with respect to the others.

Un système de projection d'images vidéo couleur comprend une source lumineuse blanche qui est décomposée selon les bandes rouges, vertes et bleues (212, 216, 220) séparées par des bandes de garde sombres (211, 214, 218). L'optique de balayage soumet les bandes à une analyse séquentielle sur toute la surface d'un modulateur de lumière, tel qu'un panneau de transmission à cristaux liquides. Avant que chaque couleur passe sur une rangée donnée du panneau lumineux du modulateur de lumière, cette rangée va recevoir par la logique d'affichage le contenu de la couleur appropriée de cette partie de l'image qui va être visualisée. L'image du panneau est projetée par une lentille de projection sur une surface de visualisation, telle qu'un écran. Afin d'optimiser la pureté des couleurs du système lorsque celui-ci est utilisé avec certains types de variateurs de lumière, les intervalles (dR, dG, dB) entre chacune des trois couleurs sont réglés et échelonnés selon les différents temps de réponse du panneau à cristaux liquides pour chaque couleur. De plus, l'équilibre chromatique peut être réglé par la modification de la dimension relative de chaque bande de couleur par rapport aux autres.
