Abstract

A thermal fuse comprises a member (14) mounted on a ceramic substrate. The member comprises a fuse element and spring (M-shaped region) and is mounted locally with solder via connection pads (12, 21 and 13). The fuse element bridges opposing pads (12, 21) of conductors (17 and 19). Pad (13) constitutes an anchor point. Current flows via the tracks (17 and 19), formed on the surface of the substrate, and part of the element (14), the fuse element, connected between the pads (12 and 21). Under electrical overload the solder softens and releases the spring away from the conductive areas to break the electrical contact between the conductor pads (12 and 21). In this way the spring means is not heated directly by the effects of current flow and, thus, does not lose its springiness since current only flows through the fuse element.

Fusible thermique comprenant un élément (14) monté sur un substrat céramique. L'élément comprend un élément de fusible et un ressort (région en forme de M), et est monté localement avec de la soudure tendre à l'aide de pastilles de connexion (12, 21 et 13). L'élément de fusible relie les pastilles opposées (12, 21) des conducteurs (17 et 19). La pastille (13) constitue un point d'ancrage. Le courant s'écoule dans les voies (17 et 19) formées sur la surface du substrat et une partie de l'élément (14), de l'élément de fusible, relié entre les pastilles (12 et 21). Dans des conditions de surcharge électrique la soudure se ramollit et libère le ressort qu'elle chasse des zones conductives pour rompre le contact électrique entre les pastilles (12 et 21) des conducteurs. De cette manière le ressort n'est pas chauffé directement par les effets de l'écoulement du courant et, par conséquent, ne perd pas de son élasticité puisque le courant ne s'écoule qu'à travers l'élément de fusible.
