A method and an apparatus are provided for safely testing an autotransformer of power distribution lines which has an identified centre tap ground connector, a primary winding terminal and a secondary winding terminal. The method for safely testing the autotransformer includes the steps of disconnecting the terminals and connector of the autotransformer from the distribution lines, applying a first testing AC voltage having a maximum value of substantially one volt only between a first of the terminals and the ground connector, measuring a first value of an AC voltage between the first terminal and the ground connector, and measuring a second value of an AC voltage between the second of the terminals and the ground connector. Thereafter, the method includes the steps of applying a second testing AC voltage having a maximum value of substantially one volt only between the second terminal and the ground connector, measuring a third value of an AC voltage between the second terminal and the ground connector, and measuring a fourth value of an AC voltage between the first terminal and the ground connector. Then, the method further includes steps of comparing the four measured values to predetermined constants, and generating corresponding signals indicating that autotransformer is short-circuited or that the same is open-circuited. When, the autotransformer being tested is not short-circuited nor open-circuited, the method includes the step of generating a signal indicating that the first terminal is the secondary winding terminal or the first terminal is the primary winding terminal, whereby the primary and secondary terminals are clearly identified.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant de tester en toute sécurité un autotransformateur de lignes de distribution d'énergie doté d'un connecteur de masse à prise médiane, d'une borne d'enroulement primaire et d'une borne d'enroulement secondaire. Le procédé d'essai en toute sécurité de l'autotransformateur consiste à déconnecter les bornes et le connecteur de l'autotransformateur des lignes de distribution d'énergie, à appliquer une première tension alternative d'essai présentant une valeur maximum de sensiblement un volt seulement entre une première borne et le connecteur de masse, à mesurer une première valeur d'une tension alternative entre la première borne et le connecteur de masse, et à mesurer une seconde valeur d'une tension alternative entre la seconde borne et le connecteur de masse. Le procédé consiste ensuite à appliquer une seconde tension alternative d'essai présentant une valeur maximum de sensiblement un volt seulement entre la seconde borne et le connecteur de masse, à mesurer une troisième valeur d'une tension alternative entre la seconde borne et le connecteur de masse, et à mesurer une quatrième valeur d'une tension alternative entre la première borne et le connecteur de masse. Les quatre valeurs mesurées sont ensuite comparées à des constantes prédéterminées, et les signaux correspondants indiquant si l'autotransformateur est en court-circuit ou en circuit ouvert sont produits. Lorsque l'autotransformateur en cours d'essai n'est ni en court-circuit ni en circuit ouvert, le procédé consiste à générer un signal indiquant si la première borne est la borne de l'enroulement secondaire ou la borne de l'enroulement primaire, ce qui permet d'identifier clairement les bornes primaires et secondaires.
