(EN)A process has been discovered for making alkyl polyglycoside which comprises reacting a fatty alcohol having from about 8 to about 22 carbon atoms with a sugar, in the presence of an acid catalyst, to form a product of alkyl polyglycoside and excess fatty alcohol. The molar ratio of fatty alcohol to sugar, respectively, is at least 2:1. The excess fatty alcohol is then separated from the alkyl polyglycoside product. Once separated, the excess fatty alcohol is then reacted with a source of boric acid to form a mixture comprised of one or more borate esters of the fatty alcohol and inert compounds. The non-hydroxylic compounds are then separated from the borate esters. The substantially pure fatty alcohol is then returned to the beginning of the process for use in the formation of alkyl polyglycoside.
(FR)Un procédé de production de polyglycoside d'alkyle consiste à faire réagir un alcool gras, doté de 8 à 22 atomes de carbone environ, avec un sucre, en présence d'un catalyseur acide, pour former un produit de polyglycoside d'alkyle et de l'acool gras excédentaire. Le rapport molaire de l'alcool gras au sucre est d'au moins 2 à 1. On sépare alors l'alcool gras excédentaire du polyglycoside d'alkyle, puis on le fait réagir avec une source d'acide borique pour former un mélange comprenant un ou plusieurs esters de borate de l'alcool gras et des composés inertes. On sépare alors les composés non hydroxyliques et les esters de borate. On renvoie ensuite l'alcool gras pratiquement pur vers le début du processus où il participe à la formation du polyglycoside d'alkyle.
