There is disclosed a component (61) for electronic packaging applications. A metallic substrate (62) having a centrally disposed cavity (68) is coated with an electrical isolating layer (64). Circuit traces (66) electrically interconnect a semiconductor device (54) with solder balls (70). A potting compound (60) encapsulates the integrated circuit device (54) and a portion of the circuit traces (66).
