Abstract

The present invention is applicable to the art of identification, interrogation and communication equipment. The present invention has particular application to equipment used in conjunction with smart cards, tags and like apparatus and including, in one form, an RF based technology, which has found a use in electronic ticketing, monitoring passenger movement and the identification and sorting of airline baggage and/or other items, such as containers or mail items. The present invention, in one form, is predicated on the principle of creating a substantially opposing field, and applying this proximate the interrogator to substantially reduce stray field emissions. The present invention, in another form, combines the physics of conducting tubes and self-cancelling fields and applies them to a tunnel interrogator. The invention thus applies a conducting tube which confines the field and the property of a loop generating a self-cancelling field to an interrogator. This combination may be called a 'loop tube'. In yet a further invention, the loop tubes are arranged around the perimeter of the shield to suppress tangential field leakage that would normally be immune to the loop tube's suppressing action.

La présente invention s'applique au secteur technique des appareils d'identification, d'interrogation et de communication, et, plus particulièrement, aux appareils utilisés conjointement avec des cartes à puce, des étiquettes et appareils analogues. Dans un aspect, l'invention fait appel à une technologie à haute fréquence utilisée dans le cadre de la billetterie électronique, du contrôle du transport des passagers et de l'identification et du triage des bagages de ligne aérienne et/ou autres articles, tels que des conteneurs et des pièces postales. Dans un aspect, la présente invention est fondée sur le principe de création d'un champ sensiblement opposé et l'application de ce champ au voisinage de l'appareil d'interrogation afin de réduire sensiblement les émissions de champs de dispersion. Dans un autre aspect, l'invention associe les principes physiques des tubes conducteurs et des champs à auto-annulation et les applique à un dispositif d'interrogation en forme de tunnel. L'invention permet ainsi d'appliquer, à un dispositif d'interrogation, un tube conducteur qui confine le champ, et la propriété d'une boucle générant un champ à auto-annulation. Cette combinaison peut être appelée 'tube à boucle'. Dans une autre variante, les tubes à boucle sont disposés sur la périphérie du blindage afin de supprimer les fuites de champ tangentielles qui seraient généralement insensibles à l'effet de suppression du tube à boucle.
