A bidirectional hydrodynamic shaft seal (8) includes an annular plastic disk (14) having a sealing surface (16) or lip provided with two connected spiral grooves (27, 29) extending around the disk axis (47). One of the spiral grooves spirals outwardly in a clockwise direction, and the other spiral groove spirals outwardly in a counterclockwise direction so that the spiral grooves have multiple intersection points (51). The shaft seal is designed for operation in either or both directions of shaft rotation.

Un dispositif d'étanchéité hydrodynamique bidirectionnel (8) comprend un disque plastique annulaire (14) ayant une surface d'étanchement (16) ou lèvre pourvue de deux rainures en spirale (27, 29) qui communiquent et qui sont aménagées autour de l'axe (47) du disque. Une des rainures s'écarte en spirale de l'axe en suivant le sens des aiguilles d'une montre et l'autre s'écarte de l'axe en suivant le sens inverse de celui des aiguilles d'une montre, si bien que les rainures en spirales ont de multiples points d'intersection (51). Le dispositif d'étanchéité d'arbre reste efficace quel que soit le sens de rotation de l'arbre.
