A method and apparatus for detecting the proper functioning of an ABS control unit which utilizes dual programmed microprocessors, the second of which calculates mismatched wheel speed and both of which calculate extended control loop time. When computed wheel velocities are above 10 mph, the second microprocessor determines whether the difference in computed wheel velocity between the two microprocessors is at least 2 mph. If the difference is more than 2 mph for more than 6 consecutive program loops, a mismatched wheel speed calculation error is identified. Each of the microprocessors also compares its loop timing with the loop timing of the other microprocessor and if more than 1 millisecond late for 6 consecutive program loops, the proper diagnostic response is to set an ignition latch code which triggers an inhibit signal. In addition, if the first microprocessor determines more than a 16 millisecond delay, then the first microprocessor is reset. If the second microprocessor determines more than a 65 millisecond delay, then the second microprocessor is reset.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil qui permettent la détection du fonctionnement correct d'un organe de commande d'un dispositif antiblocage ABS au moyen de deux microprocesseurs programmés, le second calculant la différence de vitesse entre les roues et les deux calculant la durée prolongée de la boucle de commande. Lorsque les vitesses des roues calculées dépasse 10 m/h, le second microprocesseur détermine si la différence de vitesse entre les deux microprocesseurs est d'au moins 2 m/h. Si c'est le cas pour plus de six boucles de programme consécutives, une erreur de calcul de différence de vitesse entre les roues est identifiée. Chaque microprocesseur compare également la synchronisation de ses propres boucles avec celle de l'autre et, si un retard de plus d'une milliseconde pour six boucles de programme est constaté, la réponse diagnostique appropriée consiste à régler un code de verrouillage d'allumage qui déclenche un signal d'inhibition. De plus, si le premier microprocesseur constate un retard de plus de 16 millisecondes, celui-ci est remis à zéro. Si le second microprocesseur constate un retard de plus de 65 millisecondes, celui-ci est remis à zéro.
