In the high-frequency drop-on-demand ink jet system described in the specification, a variable impedance characteristic of an ink jet orifice is utilized to provide maximum drop ejection rates exceeding the maximum rates possible with constant orifice impedance characteristics. In one embodiment, a variable impedance characteristic is utilized with an ink jet orifice (17) by applying successive negative (30), positive (31) and negative (32) pulses to eject each drop, permitting maximum ink drop ejection rates exceeding 10-20 kHz and up to 150-200 kHz, and, in another embodiment, the ink jet orifice (38) is designed with a bellmouth shape arranged to enhance the variable impedance characteristic.

Dans un système à jet d'encre goutte à la demande à haute fréquence, tel que le décrit l'invention, on utilise une caractéristique d'impédance variable d'un orifice de jet d'encre afin d'obtenir des cadences maximum d'éjection de gouttes dépassant les cadences maximum possibles avec des caractéristiques d'impédance constante d'orifice. Dans un mode de réalisation, on utilise une caractéristique d'impédance variable avec un orifice de jet d'encre (17) par application d'impulsions successives négative (30), positive (31) et négative (32), afin d'éjecter chaque goutte, ce qui permet d'obtenir des cadences maximum d'éjection de goutte d'encre dépassant 10-20 kHz et atteignant 150-200 kHz maximum et, dans un autre mode de réalisation, l'orifice de jet d'encre (38) est conçu avec un évasement permettant d'amplifier la caractéristique d'impédance variable.
