Apparatus and a method for precision batch or continuous flow blending of gases are described. Pulsatile precision gas metering valves (15a-15d) having essentially zero dead space are employed to introduce gases to a mixing chamber (20) in predictable uniform quantities to achieve precision gas blends according to predetermined criteria. During batch processing, gases to be blended are repeatedly characterized by the change in mixing chamber (20) pressure with respect to time immediately after blending. Estimates of additional amounts of a given gas to be added to achieve a desired final partial pressure of the given gas in the mixing chamber (20) are based on empirical data previously measured and stored for the gas in question.

Appareil et procédé de mélange de gaz à haute précision, en mode discontinu ou à écoulement continu. Des soupapes de dosage de gaz précises et à pulsations (15a-15d), qui ne présentent essentiellement aucun espace inutilisé, sont utilisées pour introduire des gaz dans une chambre de mélange (20) en quantités uniformes prévisibles afin d'obtenir des mélanges précis en fonction de critères prédéterminés. Au cours du traitement en mode discontinu, les caractéristiques des gaz à mélanger sont déterminées de manière répétée par la modification de la pression dans la chambre de mélange (20) en fonction du temps et immédiatement après le mélange. Des estimations des quantités supplémentaires d'un gaz donné devant être ajoutées pour obtenir une pression partielle finale requise du gaz donné dans la chambre de mélange (20) sont fondées sur des données empiriques précédemment mesurées et mémorisées pour le gaz en question.
