Title: INSTALLATION FOR DECONTAMINATING RADIOACTIVELY CONTAMINATED SURFACES
Abstract:
Described is an installation for the decontamination of radioactively contaminated surfaces by dry blast-cleaning, the installation including an extractor (14) designed to extract the dust/abrasive mixture produced by the blast-cleaning together with the extraction gas, plus a separator (2) designed to separate the dust/abrasive mixture extracted by the extractor (14) into dust and reusable abrasive, plus a storage bin (20) connected between the extractor (14) and the separator (2), the storage bin being fitted with a filter unit (30, 32, 34) to filter the extraction gas flowing through the storage bin (20) to the extractor (14). This design reduces the waste volume arising from the blast-cleaning, and no waste products are produced which have to be disposed of individually, thus reducing the radioactive dose to which the operating personnel are exposed compared with prior art decontamination installations.
