Method and device for concentrating macromolecules from a solution by means of spinning a concentrator device in a centrifuge. Said device comprises a sample reservoir (1) for receiving a sample to concentrate or purify, filter means for filtering the sample, a centrifuge tube (5) for collecting the filtrate and a concentrate pocket (4) for retention of concentrate. Typically the sample reservoir (1) of the device is provided with a portion constituting a filtration chamber (3) with a volume being only a small fraction of the total volume of the sample reservoir and the filter means is arranged in the sidewall and the concentrate pocket (4) is arranged in the bottom wall of said filtration chamber. In the method the liquid sample is put into the sample reservoir and the unit comprising the sample reservoir (1) and the filter means (2) is put at least partly into the centrifuge tube for collecting the filtrate. This assembly is centrifuged whereby a force vector is created acting on the macromolecules and sweeping the filter surface, the macromolecules are collected in a concentrate pocket (4) away from the filter surface thereby eliminating the risk of concentration to dryness.

Procédé de concentration de macromolécules en solution par rotation d'un dispositif concentrateur dans une centrifugeuse. Ledit dispositif concentrateur se compose d'un réservoir (1) destiné à recevoir l'échantillon à concentrer ou purifier, d'un élément filtrant, d'un tube centrifuge (5) de recueil du filtrat et d'une poche (4) de recueil du concentré. Le réservoir (1) du dispositif possède normalement une partie constituant une chambre de filtration (3) dont le volume ne représente qu'une faible fraction de son propre volume, l'élément filtrant étant disposé dans la paroi de ladite chambre (3) et la poche (4) de recueil du concentré, à sa base. Le procédé consiste à placer le liquide échantillon dans le réservoir (1) et l'unité comprenant ledit réservoir (1) et l'élément filtrant (2) au moins partiellement dans le tube centrifuge pour recueillir le filtrat. La centrifugation de l'ensemble crée une force balayant la surface du filtre et agissant sur les macromolécules qui sont recueillies dans la poche (4) en se détachant de la surface du filtre, ce qui élimine le risque de concentrer jusqu'à dessiccation.
