A novel lipopolysaccharide-binding protein which has the molecular weight of 27,000, is composed of 221 amino acid residues and is produced by extracting a limulus hemocyte membrane fraction with a polyethylene glycol ether nonionic surfactant in the presence of Ca2+ ions and subjecting the extract to affinity chromatography using a lipopolysaccharide as the ligand followed by elution with an eluent containing a chelating agent. This protein has the ability to bind a lipopolysaccharide and hence is useful as a reagent for detecting endotoxin and a treatment for eliminating endotoxin through adsorption from a medicine for injection.

Une nouvelle protéine de liaison d'un lipopolysaccharide, présentant une masse moléculaire de 27 000, se compose de 221 résidus d'acides aminés. On obtient cette protéine en extrayant une fraction membranaire d'hémocyte de limule avec un tensioactif non ionique à base d'éther de polyéthylène glycol en présence d'ions Ca2+, en soumettant l'extrait obtenu à une chromatographie d'affinité, un lipopolysaccharide étant utilisé comme ligand, puis en procédant à une élution au moyen d'un éluant contenant un chélateur. Cette protéine peut se lier à un lipopolysaccharide, elle peut donc être utilisée en tant que réactif pour détecter la présence d'endotoxine, et dans un traitement visant à éliminer l'endotoxine par adsorption à partir d'un médicament à administrer par injection.
