A position detection probe (1) having a magnetostrictive wire (22) stretched between a head (12) and a reflective foot end termination (28), and a magnet (20) movable along the probe (1) uses the sonic pulse propagation time from the magnet (20) to the head (12) as one parameter and the time from the magnet (20) to the foot and reflected back to the head as another parameter for determining the magnet position. The sum of the propagation times is a constant which is used as a reference value. Upon receipt of the first two pulses the propagation times are summed and compared to the reference value, and the data is accepted if the sum is within a prescribed window around the reference value. When noise occurs, it creates a false measure of propagation time so that the sum of the propagation times is no longer equal to the reference value and the data is rejected.

Une sonde de détection de position (1) possédant un fil magnétostrictif (22) s'étendant entre une tête (12) et une base d'extrémité réfléchissante (28), ainsi qu'un aimant (20) mobile le long de la sonde (1), utilise le temps de propagation de l'impulsion sonique depuis l'aimant (20) vers la tête (12) en tant qu'un paramètre et le temps de propagation depuis l'aimant (20) vers la base, puis le temps de retour vers la tête, en tant qu'autre paramètre pour déterminer la position de l'aimant. La somme des temps de propagation est une constante utilisée en tant que valeur de référence. A réception des deux premières impulsions, les temps de propagation sont additionnés et comparés à la valeur de référence et les données sont acceptées si la somme se trouve à l'intérieur d'une fenètre prescrite à approximativement la valeur de référence. Quand un bruit apparaît, il crée une fausse mesure du temps de propagation, de telle manière que la somme des temps de propagation n'est plus égale à la valeur de référence et les données sont rejetées.
