(EN)The invention relates to a process for developing plants of novel type being capable of nitrogen-fixation also in their leaves. The process of the invention comprises inoculating plant protoplasts, cells, tissues, embryos or organs grown and/or treated under $i(in vitro) conditions with bacteria belonging to the family of Azotobacteraceae, then cocultivating the thus-obtained culture at a temperature of 15 to 35 °C and, if desired, propagating and/or regenerating the whole plant under $i(in vitro) conditions on or in a culture medium containing nitrogen and main carbon source(s) utilizable only by the plant cells as well as optionally other additives. The process of the invention ensures a well-balanced growth of the plant together with the bacteria.
(FR)Procédé d'élaboration d'un nouveau type de plantes pouvant fixer l'azote même dans leurs feuilles. Le procédé consiste à inoculer, avec des bactéries de la famille des Azotobactéracées, des protoplastes, cellules, tissus, embryons ou organes végétaux cultivés et/ou traités $i(in vitro), puis à cultiver la culture ainsi obtenue à une température comprise entre 15 et 35 °C et, le cas échéant, à propager et/ou régénérer $i(in vitro) la plante entière sur ou dans un milieu de culture contenant de l'azote et une ou plusieurs sources principales de carbone utilisables uniquement par les cellules végétales, ainsi que d'autres additifs éventuels. Ledit procédé assure une croissance bien équilibrée de la plante conjointement avec les bactéries.
