Um bei einem Zweirohr-Stoßdämpfer für Kraftfahrzeuge, der mit einem am unteren Ende seines Arbeitszylinders angeordneten, aus einer Vorsteuerstufe sowie einer Hauptstufe bestehenden Dämpferventil versehen ist, eine aus Fahrkomfortsgründen gewünschte 'weiche' Kennlinie bzw. eine spezielle Kennlinie aus einem Feld möglicher Kennlinien einzustellen, wird erfindungsgemäß vorgeschlagen, daß die Dämpfungskraft in einem unteren Kolbengeschwindigkeits-bereich lediglich durch den veränderbaren Durchflußquerschnitt der Vorsteuerstufe (11) bestimmt wird, während die Hauptstufe (12) geschlossen bleibt, und daß die Dämpfungskraft in einem oberen Kolbengeschwindigkeitsbereich durch die veränderbaren Durchflußquerschnitte der Haupt- (12) sowie der Vorsteuerstufe (11) bestimmt wird.

In order to obtain a 'soft' characteristic required for ride comfort reasons or a special characteristic from a range of possible ones in a twin-tube shock absorber for motor vehicles having a damper valve consisting of a pre-control stage and a main stage arranged at the lower end of its working cylinder, the invention proposes that the damping capacity in a lower piston speed range be determined solely by the variable flow-section of the pre-control stage (11) while the main stage (12) remains closed, and that the damping capacity in an upper piston speed range be determined by the variable flow-section of the main (12) and the pre-control (11) stages.

Dans un amortisseur bitube pour véhicules automobiles, lequel est muni d'une soupape d'amortissement disposée à l'extrémité inférieure de son cylindre de travail et constituée d'un étage de pilotage, ainsi que d'un étage principal, pour régler soit une courbe caractéristique 'douce', souhaitée pour des raisons de confort de conduite, soit une courbe caractéristique spéciale, sélectionnée dans une panoplie de courbes caractéristiques possibles, il est proposé, selon l'invention, de déterminer la force d'amortissement dans une gamme inférieure de vitesses de piston uniquement par la section de débit variable de l'étage de pilotage (11), tandis que l'étage principal (12) reste fermé, et de déterminer la force d'amortissement dans une gamme supérieure de vitesses de piston par les sections de débit variables de l'étage principal (12), ainsi que de l'étage de pilotage (11).
