A catalyst and process for preparing it and its use in polymerizing tetrahydrofuran to produce polytetramethylene ether glycol ether are disclosed. The catalyst is a blend of a fluorinated resin containing sulfonic acid groups and a fluorinated resin containing carboxylic acid groups. The catalyst is partially dried to contain from 1,000 to 2,000 ppm water, so that when it is used to polymerized tetrahydrofuran, the product polytetramethylene ether glycol will have a number average molecular weight of from 250 to 4,000.

Catalyseur et son procédé de préparation, ainsi que son utilisation dans la polymérisation de tétrahydrofurane afin de produire de l'éther glycol de polytétraméthylène. Le catalyseur est un mélange d'une résine fluorurée contenant des groupes d'acides sulfoniques ainsi que d'une résine fluorurée contenant des groupes d'acides carboxyliques. Le catalyseur est partiellement séché afin de contenir 1000 à 2000 ppm d'eau, de manière que lorsqu'il est utilisé pour polymériser du tétrahydrofurane, l'éther glycol de polytétraméthylène produit présente un poids moléculaire moyen au nombre compris entre 250 et 4000.
