Abstract

A stand-alone control module for use in closed-wound drainage systems is described. The control module transforms a variable high-vacuum source into a constant low-vacuum source. The control module also provides a one-way check valve to prevent return of air to a patient when draining such air from the pleural cavity of the patient. The control module is a water-based control module. It includes a first-suction control chamber (54) for transforming a variable high-vacuum into a constant low-vacuum. The first chamber (54) contains a first column of fluid (56) at a first pre-determined level. The module also includes a second water seal chamber (80) that contains a second column of fluid at a second pre-determined level. The height of the second column of fluid is less than the height of the first column of fluid. Tubes (58, 84) are placed in each chamber (54, 80) that have one end of each tube (58, 84) located below the columns of fluid. The column of fluid (56) within the first chamber (54) acts to regulate the vacuum within the chambers (54, 80) and the column of fluid in the second chamber (80) provides a one-way check valve to prevent air from returning to the patient.

Module de contrôle autonome destiné aux systèmes de drainage des plaies fermées. Le module de contrôle convertit une source à vide intense fluctuant en une source à vide modéré constant. Le module de contrôle comporte également un clapet anti-retour empêchant que l'air extrait de la cavité pleurale du patient ne puisse retourner dans l'organisme de ce dernier. Le module de contrôle fonctionne selon un principe hydraulique. Il comprend une première chambre de régulation d'aspiration (54), qui transforme le vide intense fluctuant en un vide modéré mais constant. Cette première chambre (54) renferme une première colonne de fluide (56) à un niveau prédéterminé. Le module comprent également une deuxième chambre à eau étanche (80), qui renferme une deuxième colonne de fluide dont le niveau est lui aussi prédéterminé. La hauteur de cette deuxième colonne de fluide est inférieure à celle de la première colonne. Chacune des chambres (54, 80) comporte un tube (58, 84) dont l'une des extrémités s'ouvre au-dessous de la colonne de fluide. La colonne de fluide (56) de la première chambre (54) tend à réguler le vide à l'intérieur des chambres (54, 80) tandis que la colonne de fluide de la deuxième chambre (80) fait office de vanne anti-retour, empêchant l'air de retourner dans l'organisme du patient.
