said actuator drive motor further including a permanent magnet positioned on said first side of said coil and a flux plate having a first portion coupled to said magnet on said first side of said coil and a second portion which extends adjacent to said second side of said coil.

5. A storage device according to Claim 1, wherein said housing comprises:
a baseplate having a peripheral portion which includes a lip extending circumferentially around
said peripheral portion, said lip terminating in a free edge; and
a cover adapted to cooperate with said baseplate to provide an enclosure for said disk drive, said
cover including a free edge at the periphery there of such that when said cover is engaged with said
baseplate said free edge of said cover overlaps said free edge of said lip.

6. A disk drive information storage device
comprising:
a substantially rigid disk;
a housing comprising a baseplate and a cover, said baseplate having a peripheral portion which
includes a lip extending circumferentially around
said peripheral portion, said lip terminating in a free edge; and
a cover adapted to cooperate with said baseplate to provide an enclosure for said disk drive, said
cover including a free edge at the periphery thereof such that when said cover is engaged with said
baseplate said free edge of said cover overlaps said free edge of said lip;
a spin motor supported by said housing for
rotating said rigid disk, said spin motor including a rotor for receiving said rigid disk and rotating said rigid disk about an axis;

actuator means including an actuator having a
body portion supported on said housing, said actuator means including an actuator drive motor coupled to
said actuator body for providing motion to said
actuator and a transducer support arm connected to
said actuator body for movement therewith, said
transducer support arm including a free end and a
transducer means supported adjacent to said free end.

7. A storage device according to Claim 1, wherein said spin motor includes a stator and a rotor, one having a plurality of magnetic poles and the other having at least one winding, the winding comprising a first winding portion and a second winding portion;
means for providing that only the first winding portion of the winding is used in driving the rotor relative to the stator when drive current is applied to the winding; and
means for providing that both the first and
second winding portions of the winding are used to generate back electro-magnetic force when drive
current is cut off from the winding.

8. The storage device of Claim 7, wherein the first and second winding portions are connected in series when drive current is cut off from the winding.

9. The storage device of Claim 8 and further
comprising means for applying the generated back electromagnetic force to said actuator mea s.

10. The storage device of Claim 7, wherein said actuator drive motor includes a coil having a
predetermined electrical resistance and wherein the
combined electrical resistance of said first and second winding portions is substantially equal to said
predetermined electrical resistance.

11. The storage device of Claim 8, wherein said actuator drive motor includes a coil having a
predetermined electrical resistance and wherein the combined electrical resistance of said first and second winding portions is substantially equal to said
predetermined electrical resistance.

1. A disk drive information storage device
comprising:
disk means;
5 a housing having a footprint that includes a
first dimension of about 51mm;
a spin motor supported by said housing for
rotating said disk means, said spin motor including a rotor for receiving said disk means and rotating said 0 disk means about an axis;
actuator means including a body portion
rotatably supported on said housing for rotation
about an axis, said actuator means including an
actuator drive motor coupled to said body portion for 5 providing rotary motion to said body portion, said
actuator means including a load beam connected to
said body portion for rotation of a first end of said load beam in a plane substantially parallel to a
surface of said disk means, said load beam further
including a lift tab having a free end which extends beyond said first end of said load beam, said lift
tab extending along an axis which is skewed from the longitudinal axis of said load beam;
a slider body including a transducer means;
means connected to said load beam and said
slider body for supporting said slider body adjacent
to said first end of said load beam;
a cam assembly supported on said housing, said
cam assembly including a cam surface positioned in
operative relationship with said lift tab, said lift
tab contacting said cam surface and in cooperation
with said cam surface operating to move said slider
body into a loaded position above a surface of said
disk means upon movement of said first end of said
load beam toward the rotational axis of said disk
means.

2. A disk drive according to Claim 1, including another load beam connected to said body portion for rotation of a first end of said other load beam in a plane substantially parallel to the opposite surface of said disk means, another slider body including a transducer means, means connected to said other load beam and said other slider body for supporting said other slider body adjacent to said first end of said other load beam, said load beams being positioned such that their respective slider bodies are in facing relationship.

3. A disk drive according to Claim 2 , wherein said disk drive further includes a planar plate supported on said housing adjacent to an edge of said disk means and positioned such that said plate is intermediate said slider bodies when said slider bodies are in an unloaded position.

4. A disk drive according to Claim 2 , wherein said disk means has a diameter in the range of about 45mm to about 50mm.

5. A disk drive information storage device
comprising:
disk means;
a housing comprising a baseplate and a cover, said baseplate having a peripheral portion which
includes a lip extending circumferentially around
said peripheral portion, said lip terminating in a free edge and said cover being adapted to cooperate with said baseplate to provide an enclosure for said disk drive, said cover including a free edge at the periphery thereof such that when said cover is
engaged with said baseplate said free edge of said cover overlaps said free edge of said lip.

6. A disk drive according to Claim 5, wherein said housing has a footprint that includes a first dimension of about 51mm.

7. A disk drive information storage device
comprising:
disk means;
a housing having a footprint that includes a
first dimension of about 51mm;
a spin motor supported by said housing for
rotating said disk means, said spin motor including a rotor for receiving said disk means and rotating said disk means about a first axis; and
actuator means including a body portion
rotatably supported on said housing for rotation
about a second axis, said actuator means further
including an actuator drive motor coupled to said
body portion for providing rotary motion to said body portion, wherein said actuator drive motor is
comprised of a coil coupled to said body portion,
said coil having first and second sides, said
actuator drive motor further including a single
permanent magnet positioned on said first said of
said coil and a flux plate having a first portion
coupled to said magnet on said first side of said
coil and a second portion which extends adjacent to said second side of said coil.

8. A disk drive information storage device
comprising:
disk means;
a housing having a footprint that includes a
first dimension of about 51mm;
a spin motor for rotating said disk means, said spin motor including a rotor for receiving sa d isk means and rotating said disk means about a first
axis, and a stator, one of said stator and rotor
having a plurality of magnetic poles and the other of said stator and rotor having at least one winding structure, the winding structure comprising a first winding portion and a second winding portion; and
means for providing that both the first and
second winding portions of said winding structure are simultaneously used to generate back electromotive force when drive current is cut off from the winding structure.

9. The disk drive of Claim 8, wherein the first and second winding portions are connected in series when drive current is cut off from the winding.

10. The disk drive of Claim 9, wherein said disk drive further comprises actuator means including a body portion rotatably supported on said housing for rotation about a second axis, said actuator means including an actuator drive motor coupled to said body portion for providing rotary motion to said body portion, said disk drive further comprising means for applying the generated back electromotive force to said actuator drive motor.

11. The disk drive of Claim 10, wherein said
actuator drive motor includes a coil having a
predetermined electrical resistance and wherein the combined electrical resistance of said first and second winding portions is substantially equal to said
predetermined electrical resistance.

12. The disk drive of Claim 9, wherein said disk drive further comprises actuator means including a body portion rotatably supported on said housing for rotation about a second axis, said actuator means including an actuator drive motor coupled to said body portion for providing rotary motion to said body portion, and wherein said actuator drive motor includes a coil having a
predetermined electrical resistance and wherein the combined electrical resistance of said first and second winding portions is substantially equal to said
predetermined electrical resistance.

13. A disk drive according to Claim 8 , further comprising means for providing that only said first winding portion of said winding structure is used in driving said rotor relative to said stator when drive current is applied to said winding structure.

14. A disk drive according to any of Claims 1, 2-3, or 5-12, wherein said disk means has a diameter in the range of about 45mm to about 50mm.

15. A disk drive according to any of Claims 1, 2-3, or 5-12, wherein said footprint includes a second
dimension of about 70mm.
