Abstract:
(EN) A method and apparatus for selectively sintering a layer of powder to produce a part comprising a plurality of sintered layers. The apparatus includes a computer controlling a laser to direct the laser energy onto the powder to produce a sintered mass. The computer either determines or is programmed with the boundaries of the desired cross-sectional regions of the part. For each cross-section, the aim of the laser beam is scanned over a layer of powder and the beam is switched on to sinter only the powder within the boundaries of the cross-section. Powder is applied and successive layers sintered until a completed part is formed. Preferably, the powder comprises a plurality of materials having different dissociation or bonding temperatures. The powder preferably comprises blended or coated materials, including precursor materials which are formed into a mass at the irradiated locations, and which either react due to the laser thermal energy or in a later heat treatment to form a compound with properties different than the precursors. Examples are disclosed wherein a compound is formed which has a significantly higher melting point than that of one or more of the precursor powders.
(FR) Procédé et appareil servant à fritter de manière sélective une couche de poudre afin de produire une pièce composée d'une multiplicité de couches frittées. L'appareil se compose d'un ordinateur commandant un faisceau laser de manière à diriger l'énergie du laser sur la poudre pour produire une masse frittée. L'ordinateur peut déterminer les limites des zones de coupe transversale désirées de la pièce ou peut être programmé avec ces limites. Pour chaque coupe transversale, le faisceau laser est focalisé sur une couche de poudre et la balaie, puis est allumé de façon à fritter uniquement la poudre qui se trouve en-deçà des limites de la coupe transversale. De la poudre est appliquée et des couches successives sont frittées jusqu'à ce qu'une pièce achevée soit produite. De préférence, la poudre se compose d'une multiplicité de matériaux présentant des températures de dissociation et d'adhérence différentes. La poudre comprend de préférence des matériaux mélangés ou enduits, y compris des matériaux précurseurs qui sont agglomérés sous forme d'une masse aux endroits irradiés et qui réagissent soit en raison de l'énergie thermique du laser, soit au cours d'un traitement thermique subséquent pour former un composite présentant des caractéristiques différentes de celles des précurseurs. On cite des exemples où le composite formé présente un point de fusion significativement supérieur à celui d'une ou de plusieurs des poudres précurseurs.
