Abstract:
(EN) This invention relates to a high durability catalyst for treating automotive exhaust gas which produces a minimal amount of hydrogen sulfide and is essentially free of cerium oxide and which comprises a support consisting substantially of delta alumina, an effective amount of a promoter consisting essentially of barium oxide and, optionally, lanthanum oxide, and, effective amounts of the noble metals palladium. In an additional embodiment of the invention, the support may contain delta alumina, and, optionally, zirconia, and the catalyst may contain an overlayer containing delta or gamma alumina, and optionally, zirconia. Effective amounts of the noble metals palladium and rhodium may be deposited on the support and/or on the overlayer. In another aspect, the invention resides in a process for treating the exhaust gases from automotive engines to remove carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides, and to minimize the production of hydrogen sulfide.
(FR) L'invention se rapporte à un catalyseur de durabilité élevée pour traiter les gaz d'échappement de véhicules automombiles, qui produit une quantité minimum d'hydrogène sulfuré et est essentiellement exempt d'oxyde de cérium et qui comprend un support constitué principalement d'alumine delta, une quantité efficace d'un promoteur constitué essentiellement d'oxyde de barium et éventuellement d'oxyde de lanthane, ainsi que des quantités efficaces d'un métal noble, le palladium. Dans un autre mode de réalisation de la présente invention, le support peut contenir de l'alumine delta et éventuellement de la zircone et le catalyseur peut contenir une couche de revêtement composée d'alumine delta ou gamma et éventuellement de zircone. Des quantités efficaces des métaux nobles palladium et rhodium peuvent être déposées sur le support et/ou sur la couche de revêtement. Dans un autre aspect, la présente invention concerne un procédé de traitement des gaz d'échappement produits par les moteurs de véhicules automobiles, pour en éliminer le monoxyde de carbone, les hydrocarbures et les oxydes d'azote et pour réduire au minimum la production d'hydrogène sulfuré.
