Abstract:
(EN) The present invention relates to amplification of optical signals propagating in an optical transmission waveguide. Particularly it relates to a method and apparatus for amplifying optical signal propagating in an optical waveguide using an active optical waveguide characterized in that the active optical waveguide has a longitudinally variable structure in which at least one of the parameters: i) the extent of guiding region, ii) the extent of active dopant, and iii) the refractive index difference, varies along the length of the active optical waveguide in such a way that the ratio F of the extent of active dopant to the extent of the mode field of the pumping light is increasing monotonically in the direction of the pumping light propagation, the values of said ratio F being selected within the range from 0.05 to 1.00.
(FR) La présente invention concerne l'amplification de signaux optiques se propageant dans un guide d'ondes de transmission optique. Elle concerne notamment un procédé et un appareil permettant d'amplifier un signal optique se propageant dans un guide d'ondes optique au moyen d'un guide d'ondes optique actif qui se caractérise par le fait que sa structure varie dans le sens de la longueur et par le fait qu'au moins l'un des paramètres suivants: l'étendue de la zone de guidage, ii) l'étendue du dopant actif, et iii) la différence de l'indice de réfraction, varie sur la longueur du guide d'ondes optique actif, de telle sorte que le rapport F de l'étendue du dopant actif à l'étendue du champ de mode de la lumière de pompage augmente uniformément dans le sens de la propagation de la lumière de pompage, les valeurs dudit rapport F étant choisies dans la fourchette allant de 0,05 à 1.
