Abstract:
(EN) This invention is a catalyst comprising palladium on a support (102) and a partial combustion process in which the fuel is partially combusted using that catalyst. The palladium catalyst (106) may also comprise palladium mixed with metals selected from Group VIII or IB, may be graded (Fig. 1b) such as to have higher activity in the forward edge (112) of the catalyst, or may be placed on a support comprising zirconia. The choice of catalysts (106) and supports (102, 110) specified each solves a variety of problems dealing with the long term stability of the palladium as a partial combustion catalyst. The catalyst structure is stable in operation, has a comparatively low operating temperature, has a low temperature at which oxidation begins, and yet is not susceptible to temperature 'runaway'. The combustion gas produced by the catalytic process typically is at a temperature below the autocombustive temperature and may be used at that temperature or it may be fed to other combustion stages for further use in a gas turbine, furnace, boiler, or the like.

Le catalyseur au palladium (106) peut également comprendre du palladium mélangé à des métaux choisis dans les groupes VIII ou IB, il peut être calibré (Fig. 1b) de manière à avoir une activité supérieure dans le bord avant (112) du catalyseur, ou il peut être placé sur un support comprenant du zircone. Les catalyseurs (106) et les supports (102, 110) spécifiés choisis permettent chacun de résoudre une variété de problèmes ayant trait à la stabilité à long terme du palladium utilisé comme catalyseur de combustion partielle. La structure du catalyseur est stable à l'usage, elle a une température de fonctionnement comparativement faible, une température de début d'oxydation peu élevée, et cependant elle n'est pas susceptible d'avoir des 'emballements' thermiques. Le gaz de combustion produit par le procédé catalytique a généralement une température inférieure à la température d'autocombustion, et il peut être utilisé à cette température ou bien il peut être transféré vers d'autres étages de comnbustion afin d'être à nouveau utilisé dans une turbine à gaz, un four, une chaudière ou analogue.
