Abstract:
(EN) An electrothermal gas generating device (16) for inflating the air cushion of an occupant restraint system (11) of the 'air bag' type. Upon sensing a deceleration (10) above a predetermining threshold level a discharge voltage (13) is applied between electrodes (28) within the electrothermal device (16) which sustains a current arc therebetween, creating a plasma jet which flows into a chamber containing a solid or liquid reactive material (34). The reactive material (34) is converted into gas by the high temperature, high pressure plasma jet. The gas created then flows into and inflates the air cushion (18).
(FR) Un dispositif (16) produisant un gaz électrothermique afin de gonfler le coussin d'air d'un système de retenue (11) pour passager de véhicule du type air-bag. Dès qu'une décélération (10) dépassant un niveau de seuil prédéterminé est détectée, une tension de décharge (13) est appliquée entre les électrodes (28) se trouvant dans le dispositif électrothermique (16), laquelle entretient un arc entre lesdites électrodes, créant un jet de plasma s'écoulant dans une chambre contenant une matière réactive solide ou liquide (34). Ladite matière réactive (34) est transformée en un gaz par le jet de plasma sous haute pression à température élevée. Le gaz créé gonfle le coussin d'air (18) en s'écoulant dans celui-ci.
