1. (WO1992009264) LEAVE-ON FACIAL EMULSION COMPOSITIONS

1. A leave-on facial emulsion composition, substantially free from fats and oils and anionic surfactants, cαπprising:
(a) from 0.01 to 5% of a cationic surfactant;
(b) from 0.01 to 5% of one or more of a carboxylic acid ∞polymer;
(c) from 1% to 10% of a humectant; and
(d) a cos etically acceptable carrier;
wherein said cσrrposition provides a contact angle between sebum and skin from 0° to 10°, and a spreading index for sebum migration greater than 8300 pixels over the time period from 0-5 minutes.

An emulsion according to Claim 1 wherein the cationic surfactant is an N,N,N-tria___kylaminoalkylene gluconamide of the formula

wherein R=al_kyl, X=Cl~ or Br~, and n is an integer from 2 to 4, preferably the cationic surfactant is y'-gluconamidopropyl dimethyl 2-hydroxyethyl ammonium chloride.

An emulsion according to Claim 2 wherein the humectant is a C -C6 diol or triol, preferably wherein the humectant is glycerin.

An emulsion according to Claim 3 wherein the carboxylic acid copolymer is selected from the group consisting of Carbomer 941, Carbomer 951, Carbomer 980, Carbomer 981, Carbomer 1342, and mixtures thereof.

An emulsion according to Claim 4 wherein the weight ratio of carboxylic acid copolymer to gluconamide is from 1:10 to 10:1.

. n emuson accordng to Claim 5 wherein said emulsion further comprises from 0.1% to 20% of a pharmaceutical active.

An emulsion according to any of Claims l through 6 wherein said emulsion further comprises from 0.5% to 20% of a sunscreening agent, preferably wherein said sunscreening agent is selected from the group consisting of ethylhexyl-p-roethαxycirinamate, ococrylene, and 2-ethylhexyl N,N-di_methylaminobenzoate and even more preferably wherein said sunscreening agent is 2-ethylhexyl p-methoxycinnamate.

8. An emulsion according to Claim 7 wherein said emulsion further comprises from 0.5% to 30% titanium dioxide.

An emulsion according to any of Claims 1 through 8 which further comprises from 0.1 to 10% of a non-volatile organopolysiloxane having an average molecular weight of at least 200,000, preferably the non-volatile organopolysiloxane is selected frcm the group consisting of dimethicone copolyol, dimethylpolysiloxane, diethylpolysiloxane, high molecular weight dimethicone, mixed C.-C alkyl polysiloxane, phenyl dimethicone, dimethiconol, and mixtures' thereof, and even more preferably wherein the non-volatile organopolysiloxane is dimethiconol.

10. A method for controlling sebum distribution on facial skin, said method comprising topically applying to the facial skin an effective amount of an emu sion composition according to any of Claims 1 through 9.
