Abstract
(EN) A communication device (10) for transmitting audio information to a user and a transducer (28) therefor are provided. The device includes processing circuitry within a compact housing (16) for converting input audio signals into transducer driving signals. A miniaturized microphone (20) is mounted on the housing for receiving the input audio signals. The input audio signals are then amplified and filtered to appropriate signal levels by the processing circuitry. Once the input audio signals have been processed in this manner they are applied to a driver which outputs transducer driving signals analogous to the input audio signals. The transducer driving signals are received by a transducer assembly (14) worn by a user and energize a pair of coils (72) located on opposite sides of an armature (73) forming part of the transducer assembly. The electromagnetic forces generated by the coils when energized cause the armature to move which in turn drives a plunger (46) so that the plunger moves in a vibrational pattern analogous to the input audio signals. The plunger contacts the skin of the user so that the vibrational pattern is received by cutaneous nerve receptors on the user's body or by the user's ears via bone conduction and is then transmitted to the user's brain for processing. A pair of springs (70) are located on opposite sides of the armature (73) and bias the armature and plunger (46) so that they move to a datum in the absence of driving signals and oppose their movement when driven by the coils (72).
(FR) Dispositif de communication (10) permettant de transmettre des informations sonores à un utilisateur et comprenant un transducteur (28). Ledit dispositif comprend un circuit de traitement se trouvant dans un logement compact (16) et qui convertit les signaux sonores d'entrée en des signaux de commande du transducteur. Un microphone miniaturisé (20) est monté sur ledit logement pour recevoir les signaux sonores d'entrée. Ceux-ci sont ensuite amplifiés et filtrés à des niveaux de signaux appropriés par le circuit de traitement. Une fois les signaux sonores d'entrée ainsi traités, ils sont appliqués à un système de commande qui émet des signaux de commande de transducteur correspondant aux signaux sonores d'entrée. Les signaux de commande de transducteur sont reçus par l'ensemble transducteur (14) porté par l'utilisateur et excitent une paire de bobines (72) situées sur les côtés opposés d'une armature (73) formant une partie de l'ensemble transducteur. Les forces électromagnétiques produites par les bobines lorsqu'elles sont excitées provoquent un mouvement de l'armature, qui à son tour actionne un poinçon (46), de sorte que le poinçon vibre selon un mouvement correspondant aux signaux sonores d'entrée. Le poinçon entre en contact avec la peau de l'utilisateur, de sorte que les vibrations sont perçues par les récepteurs nerveux cutanés du corps de l'utilisateur ou par les oreilles de l'utilisateur par propagation osseuse pour être ensuite transmises au cerveau de l'utilisateur en vue d'y être traitées. Une paire de ressorts (70) se trouvant sur les côtés opposés de l'armature (73) incline l'armature et le poinçon (46), les ressorts se déplaçant vers un point de référence en l'absence de signaux de commande et contrecarrant leur mouvement lorsqu'ils sont actionnés par les bobines (72).
