Abstract

A method of operating a low boiling point liquid fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine (1) wherein the fuel is stored in a tank (17) and has a variable vapour pressure in the tank (17) dependent upon ambient temperature. The method comprises pumping the fuel to the fuel inlet rail (15) and injectors (8, 9, 10, 11) at an absolute pressure which is maintained at a constant differential above the variable vapour pressure in the tank (17), monitoring the absolute pressure of the fuel and varying the fuel injection pulse width dependent upon the absolute pressure of the fuel together with the other usual engine parameters. The method has particular application where the fuel is a liquified gas.

L'invention se rapporte à un procédé d'exploitation d'un système d'injection de carburant liquide à point d'ébullition faible pour un moteur à combustion interne (1), dans lequel le carburant est stocké dans un réservoir (17) et présente une pression de vapeur variable dans le réservoir (17) qui dépend de la température ambiante. Ce procédé consiste à pomper le carburant dans le rail d'injection de carburant (15) et dans les injecteurs (8, 9, 10, 11) à un niveau de pression absolu qui est maintenu à un niveau différentiel constant au-dessus du niveau de pression de vapeur variable régnant dans le réservoir (17), à contrôler le niveau de pression absolu du carburant et à faire varier la largeur d'impulsion de l'injection de carburant en fonction du niveau de pression absolu du carburant et des autres paramètres habituels du moteur. Ce procédé s'applique en particulier dans les cas où le carburant est un gaz liquéfié.
