Abstract:
(EN) The present invention relates to a novel process for forming porous metal matrix composite bodies. Particularly, an infiltration enhancer and/or an infiltration enhancer precursor and/or an infiltrating atmosphere are in communication with a filler material or a preform, at least at some point during the process, which permits molten matrix metal to spontaneously infiltrate the filler material or preform. Such spontaneous infiltration occurs without the requirement for the application of pressure or vacuum. However, the amount of matrix metal provided is insufficient to embed substantially completely the filler material or preform.
(FR) Cette invention concerne un nouveau procédé pour former des corps composites à matrice métallique poreuse. Une particularité de ce procédé réside dans le fait qu'un stimulateur d'infiltration et/ou un précurseur de stimulateur d'infiltration et/ou une atmosphère infiltrante sont en communication avec un matériau de remplissage ou une préforme, au moins à un moment pendant la fabrication, ce qui permet au métal matriciel fondu de s'infiltrer spontanément dans le matériau de remplissage ou dans la préforme. Cette infiltration spontanée s'effectue sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'appliquer une pression ou de créer un vide. Toutefois, la quantité de métal matriciel prévue est insuffisante pour noyer complètement le matériau de remplissage ou la préforme.
