Abstract:
(EN) A method of making a porous polymeric material by heating a mixture comprising polyvinylidene fluoride and a solvent system initially comprising a first component that is a latent solvent for polyvinylidene fluoride and a second component that is a non-solvent for polyvinylidene fluoride wherein, at elevated temperature, polyvinylidene fluoride dissolves in the solven system to provide an optically clear solution. The solution is then rapidly cooled so that non-equilibrium liquid-liquid phase separation takes place to form a continuous polymer rich phase and a continuous polymer lean phase with the two phases being intermingled in the form of bicontinuous matrix of large interfacial area, and cooling is continued until the polymer rich phase solidifies. The polymer lean phase is removed from the solid polymeric material. A porous material so prepared is characterised by a lacey or filamentous structure consisting of a plurality of polymer strands (1) connected together at a number of locations (2) spaced apart along each strand.
(FR) Un procédé de préparaton d'un matériau polymère poreux consiste à chauffer un mélange comprenant un polyfluorure de vinylidène et un système de solvant composé intitialement d'une première composante qui est un solvant latent de polyfluorure de vinylidène et d'une seconde composante qui n'est pas un solvant de polyfluorure de vinylidène, de sorte que, à une température élevée, le polyfluorure de vinylidène se dissout dans le système de solvant pour produire une solution optiquement claire. La solution est alors rapidement refroidie de sorte qu'une séparation en phase liquide-liquide non équilibrée ait lieu pour produire une phase continue riche en polymère et une phase continue pauvre en polymère, les deux phases étant mélangées sous forme d'une matrice bicontinue à large interphase. Les processus de refroidissement est poursuivi jusqu'à ce que la phase riche en polymère se solidifie. La phase pauvre en polymère est enlevée du matériau polymère solide. Un matériau poreux ainsi produit est caractérisé par une texture filamenteuse ou analogue à une dentelle composée d'une multiplicité de brins de polymère (1) reliés entre eux en différents endroits (2) espacés le long de chaque brin.
