Abstract:
(EN) Hazardous waste is formed into non-hazardous non-leaching aggregate by introducing the material to a rotary Kiln (60) where the large solids are at least partially combusted to form a primary aggregate. Gaseous combustion by-products and waste fines from the waste materials are introduced into at least one oxidizer (26) having water-cooled metal walls. Some of the waste fines are melted to form a molten slag-like material that is removed from the apparatus and cooled to form non-hazardous aggregate. The portion of the material in the oxidizer (26) that is not melted, is cooled, neutralized and subjected to a solid gas separation. The solid is reintroduced to the oxidizer with the primary aggregate where they are either melted or entrained within the molten material and become an integral part of non-hazardous aggregate.
(FR) On transforme des matériaux résiduaires toxiques en un agrégat inoffensif et sans effet lessivant, en introduisant le matériau résiduaire dans un fourneau rotatif (60) où les grosses particules solides sont soumises à une combustion au moins partielle pour former un agrégat primaire. Les sous-produits de combustion gazeux et les déchets pulvérulants provenant des matériaux résiduaires sont introduits dans au moins un organe d'oxydation (26) ayant des parois métalliques refroidies par eau. Un partie des déchets pulvérulants est fondue pour former un matériau de type laitier en fusion, qui est retiré de l'appareil et refroidi pour former un agrégat inoffensif. La partie du matériau dans l'organe d'oxydation (26) qui n'est pas fondue est refroidie, neutralisée et soumise à une séparation solides-gaz. Les solides sont réintroduits avec l'agrégat primaire dans l'organe d'oxydation, où ils sont soit fondus, soit entraînés à l'intérieur du matériau en fusion et où ils deviennent partie intégrante de l'agrégat inoffensif.
