Abstract:
(EN) An internal combustion engine has a cylinder block (10) mounted for rotation about an axis A-A in an outer casing (3), the cylinder block (10) having a diametrical bore therethrough forming a cylinder (20) which houses a pair of pistons (30, 35) positioned with their crowns (31, 36) facing one another so as to define therebetween a combustion chamber (23). Attached to the skirt (32, 37) of each piston (30, 35) via a gudgeon pin (42, 42A) is a cam follower (41, 41A) which engages an oval-like cam (46) fixed to the outer casing (3) about the circumference of the cylinder block (10). On combustion of an air-fuel mixture within the combustion chamber (23), the pistons (30, 35) are forced outwardly of the cylinder (20) which in turn causes the cylinder block (10) to rotate about axis A-A through the agency of the cam (46) and followers (41, 41A). Power output is taken from a shaft (15) co-axial with axis A-A which extends from a boss (13) attached to the cylinder block (10). The engine can run on either a two or four-stroke cycle with either spark ignited petrol or a high compression diesel ignition system.
(FR) Un moteur à combustion interne possède un bloc cylindre (10) monté en rotation autour d'un axe A-A dans un bâti externe (3), le bloc cylindre (10) ayant un alésage diamétral le traversant pour former un cylindre (20) abritant une paire de pistons (30, 35) positionnés avec leurs têtes (31, 36) se faisant face pour former une chambre de combustion (23). Un galet de came (41, 41A) en contact avec une came de forme ovale (46) fixée au bâti externe (3) autour de la circonférence du bloc cylindre (10), est fixé à la jupe (32, 37) de chaque piston (30, 35) par l'intermédiaire d'un axe de piston (42, 42A). Par combustion d'un mélange air-combustible à l'intérieur de la chambre de combustion (23), les pistons (30, 35) sont poussés vers l'extérieur du cylindre (20) ce qui provoque, à son tour, la rotation du bloc cylindre (10) autour de l'axe A-A par l'intermédiaire de la came (46) et des galets (41, 41A). La puissance est délivrée par l'intermédiaire d'un arbre (15) coaxial à l'axe A-A s'étendant à partir d'un moyeu (13) fixé au bloc cylindre (10). Le moteur peut fonctionner en deux ou quatre temps soit à l'essence en allumage par bougie, soit au diesel en allumage par compression.
