Abstract:
(EN) The present invention provides a system for augmenting ventilation and removing carbon dioxide of a spontaneous-breathing patient (P) and a method of use thereof. The system further allows relaxation of the breathing process thus reducing fatigue of the patient. The system involves providing a high continuous flow of a humidified oxygen/air mixture at a predetermined oxygen content and at a constant flow rate through a transtracheal catheter (10) into the lungs of the patient. The system typically provides an oxygen/air mixture of at least 21 percent oxygen, at a humidity between 80 to 100 percent, and a temperature of 35° to 38 °C. The mixture is delivered through the transtracheal catheter (10) at a flow rate of 8 to 20 liters per minute at a back pressure of 2 to 25 psi.
(FR) L'invention se rapporte à un système servant à augmenter la ventilation et à retirer le dioxyde de carbone des poumons d'un patient respirant spontanément (P) ainsi qu'à un procédé d'utilisation de ce système. Ce système permet en outre le relâchement du processus de respiration, ce qui réduit la fatigue du patient. Ce système consiste à introduire dans les poumons du patient par un cathéter transtrachéal (10) un courant continu élevé d'un mélange air/oxygène humidifié ayant une teneur en oxygène prédéterminée et à un débit constant. Ce système fournit généralement un mélange air/oxygène ayant au moins 21 % d'oxygène à une humidité comprise entre 80 et 100 % et à une température comprise entre 35 et 38 °C. Le mélange est acheminé à travers le cathéter transtrachéal (10) à un débit de 8 à 20 litres par minute avec une contre-pression de 2 à 25 psi.
