Abstract:
(EN) A monitor-driven intracranial catheter assembly including a dual lumen catheter (70, 72) for monitoring intracranial pressure via a pressure sensor (76) located in one lumen while simultaneously draining cerebrospinal fluid through the other lumen (72, 66). The pressure sensor (76) is preferebly a spectral modulation sensor that communicates with a photodetector apparatus by means of a single optical fiber (98), thus minimizing the diameter of the catheter. The photodetector is self-correcting for signal errors caused by temperature change, changes in intensity of the input light, and transmission losses within the optical apparatus. Moreover, the photodetector operates off the output voltage of the standard hospital monitor by ''scaling'' the signal from the monitor to provide a pressure measurement signal that emulates the output of a piezoresistive strain gauge sensor or Wheatstone bridge. Therefore, the entire catheter assembly is designed to be used with any of the common types of hospital monitors. The pressure monitoring catheter assembly can be used in any situation requiring very sensitive pressure measurements and can be zeroed and calibrated in situ.
(FR) Ensemble de cathéter intra-cranien commandé par moniteur, comprenant un cathéter (70, 72) à deux passages, destiné à contrôler la pression intra-cranienne par l'intermédiaire d'un détecteur (76) de pression situé dans un passage, tout en drainant simultanément du liquide céphalo-rachidien par l'autre passage (72, 66). Ledit détecteur (76) de pression est, de préférence, un détecteur à modulation spectrale communiquant avec un appareil de photo-détection, au moyen d'une seule fibre optique (98), réduisant ainsi au minimum le diamètre du cathéter. Ledit photo-détecteur est à auto-correction d'erreurs de signaux provoquées par un changement de température, des changements d'intensité de la lumière d'entrée, et des pertes de transmission dans l'appareil optique. De plus, ledit photo-détecteur coupe la tension de sortie du moniteur d'hôpital classique par ''graduation'' du signal provenant du moniteur, afin de produire un signal de mesure de pression émulant la sortie d'un détecteur de jauge de contrainte piézorésistif ou d'un pont de Wheatstone. Par conséquent, l'ensemble de cathéter dans son intégralité est conçu pour être utilisé avec n'importe lequel des types courrants de moniteurs hospitaliers. On peut utiliser ledit ensemble de cathéter de contrôle de pression dans toutes les situations nécessitant des mesures de pression très sensibles, et il est possible de le remettre à zéro et de l'étalonner in situ.
