Process and system for broadcasting a high-definition television programme on a channel with capacity below the signal band. The process includes: at the transmission stage, a pseudo-selection of the image dividing the spatial information over n successive frames (n being an integer over 1) and a temporal filter turning down the energy level in the region around f0/n (f0 being the analysis frame frequency) after high-definition coding and before transmission; and at the receiving stage, an interpolation filter and a temporal filter for accentuation corresponding to how far the energy had been turned down before high-definition decoding. The degree of temporal attenuation is adaptable to local spatial activity.

Pour diffuser un programme de télévision à haute définition sur un canal de capacité inférieure à la bande du signal, on effectue: à l'émission un sous-échantillonnage de l'image répartissant l'information spatiale sur n trames sucessives (n étant un nombre entier supérieur à 1) et un filtrage temporel d'atténuation de l'énergie dans la région proche de f0/n (f0 étant la fréquence trame d'analyse) après codage haute définition et avant émission; et à la réception, un filtrage d'interpolation et un filtrage temporel d'accentuation correspondant à l'atténuation, avant décodage haute définition. Le degré d'atténuation temporelle est adaptatif à l'activité spatiale locale.
