A system (10) for locating a corner (26) of an angularly oriented workpiece on a worksurface (12) includes a gripper (14) and associated two axis transport assembly (16), and a set of sensors (40) and (42) on the gripper for detecting reflected radiation from the workpiece and surrounding work. A controller (20) translates the gripper in the directions of two orthogonal axes until the sensors each overlie an edge of the corner-to-be detected. In the preferred form, the transport assembly includes a pneumatic position control system for each axis. Each pneumatic position control system includes an air cylinder (50a) and associated piston (50b), a position valve assembly and a controller, and may further include a velocity valve assembly. The velocity valve assembly controls the pneumatic impedance in the coupling path to the cylinder in order to selectively establish desired velocity for piston motion.

Le système (10) décrit, qui sert à positionner sur une surface de travail (12) un coin (26) d'une pièce à travailler orientée angulairement, comprend un organe préhenseur (14) et une unité de transport (16) à deux axes associée, ainsi qu'un groupe de capteurs (40) et (42) placés sur l'organe préhenseur et servant à détecter le rayonnement réfléchi par la pièce à travailler et par la surface de travail circonvoisine. Une unité de commande (20) effectue la translation de l'organe préhenseur dans les directions des deux axes orthogonaux, jusqu'à ce que chacun des capteurs se place au-dessus d'un bord du coin à détecter. Dans la forme de réalisation préférée, l'unité de transport comprend un système pneumatique de commande de position pour chaque axe. Chacun de ces systèmes pneumatiques de commande de position comprend un vérin pneumatique (50a) et un piston associé (50b), ainsi qu'une unité de soupape régulatrice de position et une unité de commande, et peut en outre comporter une unité de soupape régulatrice de vitesse.
