Abstract

A disposable hypodermic syringe is disclosed having a barrel (4), a hub (1) and needle holder (2) locatable on the barrel, a plunger (5) with a piston (13) at one end thereof slideable within the barrel, and an interlockable structure on the plunger and needle holder for interlocking the same one relative to the other so that after use the needle (3) is fully retractable into the syringe barrel (4) to prevent accidental stabbing and risk of infection. The needle holder tube (2) has internal barbs (10) which engage behind a domed head (8) of the plunger (5). During use (suction and injection delivery) the plunger domed head (8) is retained behind a membrane (14) within the piston (13) by similar internal barbs (20) inside the piston (13). Preferably the interconnection between the needle holder (2) and hub (1) is a screw thread and the plunger is rotatable to detach the needle holder (2) and needle from the hub. In one alternative form the needle (3) is supported in the needle holder (2) by a weakened structure breakable by axially applied pressure upon the piston rod (5). The weakened structure (44) is generally of a thinner molded thickness than the remaining moulding and is further weakened by Gamma Irradiation or other electron beam.

Seringue hypodermique jetable, composée d'un réservoir (4), d'un embout (1) et d'un manche d'aiguille (2) à placer sur le réservoir, d'un poussoir (5) muni à une de ses extrémités d'un piston (13) qui peut coulisser dans le réservoir, et d'une structure de verrouillage réciproque entre le poussoir et le manche de l'aiguille, de manière qu'après usage, l'aiguille (3) puisse se rétracter entièrement dans le réservoir de la seringue (4) pour prévenir toute piqûre et risque d'infection accidentels. Le tube du manche de l'aiguille (2) est muni de cannelures internes (10) à partir de l'arrière de la tête bombée du poussoir (5). Pendant l'emploi (succion et injection), celle-ci (8) est maintenue derrière une membrane (14) à l'intérieur du piston (13) par des cannelures internes semblables qui se trouvent à intérieur du piston (13). Interconnexion entre le manche de l'aiguille (2) et l'embout (1) est de préférence un filetage de vis et le poussoir peut pivoter de manière à détacher le manche de l'aiguille et cette dernière de l'embout. Dans une autre version, l'aiguille (3) est maintenue dans le manche (2) au moyen d'une structure fragile que l'on peut briser en imprimant une pression axiale sur la tige de piston (5). Cette structure (44) est en général moulée plus finement que le reste de l'objet et est encore fragilisée par une irradiation gamma ou un autre faisceau d'électrons.
