An online television program information system extracts from a broadcast datastream of television program information only that program information for those shows which meet predetermined selection criteria, and stores only the extracted information. By not storing all broadcast television information, memory size for information storage is reduced and a high performance processor is not required for subset searches of the entire stored datastream for programs of interest. A low cost online television program information system is thereby provided, which may store large amounts of useful program information. Content selective storage is facilitated by transmitting and receiving the television program information in three groups, with the first group comprising event data, the second group comprising titles and the third group comprising descriptions.

Un système d'informations d'un programme de télévision en ligne extrait d'un flot de données diffusé d'informations d'un programme de télévision uniquement les informations du programme pour les émissions qui satisfont des critères prédéterminés de sélection, et mémorise uniquement les informations extraites. En évitant de mémoriser toutes les informations de télévision diffusées, la taille de la mémoire pour le stockage d'informations est réduite et un processeur de haute performance n'est pas nécessaire pour effectuer des recherches de sous-ensembles dans le flot de données mémorisé entier pour trouver les programmes d'intérêt. Un système d'information de programme de télévision en ligne de faible coût est ainsi obtenu et il peut mémoriser de grandes quantités d'informations de programmes utiles. La mémorisation à sélection du contenu est facilitée en transmettant et en recevant les informations de programme de télévision en trois groupes, le premier groupe comprenant des données d'évènements, le second groupe comprenant des titres et le troisième groupe comprenant des descriptions.
