Bipyridiles of the general formula (I), in which R, R' are, for example, hydrogen, R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are aromatic residues, heteroaromatic residues or other residues which do not produce water solubility, have long-wave solid-body fluorescence.

Des bipyridyles ayant la formule générale (I), dans laquelle R, R' représentent par exemple de l'hydrogène, et R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 et R6 représentent des résidus aromatiques, des résidus hétéroaromatiques ou d'autres résidus qui ne rendent pas le produit soluble dans l'eau, ont une fluorescence à ondes longues sous leur forme solide.
