Abstract

An electric primer (10) using an intrinsic conductive pyrotechnic mixture (26) is improved by the addition of a carbon layer (28) between the inner and outer electrodes (16, 12) and the mixture (26). The carbon layer (28) provides a parallel resistive current path between the electrodes (16, 12) in addition to the path through the conductive mixture (26). The addition of a carbon layer (28) also increases the operable temperature range of the primer (10). The high energy firing threshold of the intrinsically conductive pyrotechnic mixture (26) and the additional dissipative current path through the carbon layer (28) coact to further reduce the sensitivity of the primer (10) to RF radiation and ESD hazards.

Une amorce électrique (10) se servant d'un mélange pyrotechnique à conductibilité intrinsèque (26) est améliorée par l'addition d'une couche de carbone (28) entre les électrodes internes et externes (16, 12) et le mélange (26). La couche de carbone (28) forme un chemin de courant à résistance parallèle entre les électrodes (16, 12) en plus du chemin à travers le mélange conducteur (26). L'addition d'une couche de carbone (28) accroît également la plage de températures de bon fonctionnement de l'amorce (10).
