The invention provides a scanner system that in one embodiment is of the flatbed type and employs first and second cameras that have first and second areas of view respectively of each scan line, such areas being proximate to one another in a common boundary region of each scan line. The cameras are designed so that in forming first and second images respectively of their corresponding areas of view, the center of each image is displaced from the camera's central axis in such a direction that the angle formed at the document between equivalent optical paths from a point in the common boundary region to each of the images is substantially less than the angle resulting in the absence of such displacement. This design permits relatively good alignment of the two camera images in a desktop scanner notwithstanding some variation in height of the document above the platen. Other embodiments provide improvements in lid design, and isolation from vibration and torsional forces.

Système de balayage du type à support plan, utilisant une première et une seconde caméra qui fournissent un premier et un second champ de vision pour chaque ligne de balayage, ces deux champs étant voisins l'un de l'autre dans une région limitrophe commune pour chaque ligne de balayage. Les caméras sont ainsi conçues que lorsqu'elle produisent une première et une seconde image, respectivement, de leurs champs correspondants de vision, le centre de chaque image se déplace par rapport à l'axe central de la caméra dans une direction telle que l'angle formé au niveau du document entre les trajectoires optiques équivalentes partant d'un point dans la région limitrophe commune jusqu'à chacune des images est sensiblement inférieur à l'angle obtenu en l'absence d'un tel déplacement d'image. On obtient ainsi un alignement relativement bon des deux images provenant des caméras dans un dispositif de balayage à support plan, en dépit de quelques variations dans la hauteur du document au-dessus du plateau. Dans d'autres modes de réalisation, on a prévu un couvercle amélioré et des moyens d'isolation par rapport aux vibrations et aux forces de torsion.
