Abstract

A contrast enhancement filter (24) for color displays, particularly adapted for color CRT tubes (10) of the shadow mask type. A transparent plate (40) has applied thereon absorptive areas (42), each area dyed with a primary color corresponding to the color dots (46) of the CRT display face and a plurality of such color areas (42) randomly disposed over each color dots (46). Since the absorption areas (42) are spacially independent, each color area (42) acts independently of the others. The filter (24) provides bandpass efficiency comparable to monochrome filters, and has a broad viewing range essentially independent of angle of vision. In a further embodiment, colored oriented fiber-optic elements (58, 60, 62) are disposed over the phosphor dots (50, 52, 54) in a predetermined array, allowing the filter plate (56) to replace a conventional faceplate and filter combination structure, while providing a selective viewing angle of high contrast. The filter (24) is suitable for any light-responsive display screen, also including liquid crystal elements.

Un filtre d'enrichissement de contraste (24) utilisable dans des affichages en couleur, est particulièrement apte aux tubes TRC de couleur (10) du genre à masque d'ombre. On applique à une plaque transparente (40) des zones absorbantes (42), chaque zone étant teintée d'une couleur primaire correspondante aux points de couleur (46) disposés sur l'écran TRC, tandis qu'une pluralité de telles zones de couleur (42) sont disposées sur chaque point de couleur (46) de façon aléatoire. Lesdites zones (42) étant indépendantes de leur position dans l'espace, chaque zone agit de façon indépendante par rapport aux autres. Le filtre (24) présente une efficacité de passe-bande comparable à celle des filtres monochromes, et possède une portée de vision essentiellement indépendante de l'angle de vision. Dans une autre réalisation, des éléments de fibres optiques orientés vers la couleur (58, 60, 62) sont disposés sur les points de substance luminescente (50, 52, 54) dans un arrangement prédéterminé, ce qui permet à la plaque de filtrage (56) de remplacer une structure d'écran et filtre combinés, tout en réalisant un angle de vision sélective à haut contraste. Le filtre (24) est utilisable dans tout écran de visualisation sensible à la lumière, comprenant également des éléments de cristal liquide.
