The invention comprises a vehicle load sensor apparatus for measuring the load on one or more splindles (20, 30) of a vehicle axle (22) which comprises a vehicle axle spindle, a string means (10) attached to a point (14) adjacent to the vehicle spindle (20), and a means (40, 50) for measuring the change of tension in the string. The tension in the string (10) is measured by inducing a vibration (40) in the string and then measuring the frequency of vibration (50) of the string which is proportional to the square root of the tension in the string. The change of tension is then determined by comparing this measured tension in the string to the tension in the string previously measured under no-load conditions. In a preferred embodiment, both the load and the torque on an axle or spindle may be determined using the disclosed apparatus and method by using a first string (80) attached to a point adjacent to the front (21) of the spindle and a second string (90) attached to a point adjacent to the rear (23) of the spindle and comparing the changes of tension in the front string to the changes of tension in the rear string to determine the torque acting on the end of the axle.

L'invention concerne un appareil de détection de la charge du véhicule pour mesurer la charge exercée sur une ou plusieurs fusées (20, 30) d'un essieu (22) d'un véhicule, comprenant une fusée d'essieu de véhicule, une corde métallique (10) attachée en un point (14) adjacent à la fusée (20) du véhicule et des moyens (40, 50) de mesure du changement de la tension de la corde métallique.
